By default, we set the recommended time limit to 15 minutes. During this time, the order is placed On-Hold within Shopify to prevent your team from fulfilling the order.
Within the dropdown there are a few options including:
Time (15 min to 2 days) - once the time limit expires, the order cannot be edited.
Order fulfillment - once you fulfill the order in Shopify, the time limit is automatically set to zero and the order cannot be edited.
Dynamic based on blackout period (same day processing) - this option allows you to set a time range for when orders are syncing to your 3PL / ERP system, and you do not want any order edits to be accepted during this time. For orders placed outside of this timeframe, their time to edit will be dynamic leading up to the blackout period.
Same Day Processing (Blackout Period)
Once the "dynamic based on blackout period" option is selected for your deadline option, a new setting screen will appear. These settings will allow you to control when customers are not allowed to make order edits due to the orders syncing with your 3PL / ERP system.
There are a few options to consider:
Start Time & End Time - this is the time range where new orders will not be allowed to make any edits to their order. Instead the default "Order cannot be edited" error will appear. If the customer makes an order outside of this timeframe, then their time will be dynamic up until the next sync period. Example:
Timeframe is: 11am - 12pm EST
CustomerA places an order at 6am = 5 hours left to edit
CustomerB places an order at 12pm = 23 hours left to edit
CustomerC places an order at 11:30am = Order cannot be edited
Time Zone - define the time zone for when your orders sync into your 3PL / ERP system. Our system will convert the customer's time zone and adjust the time left to edit accordingly.
Skip blackout periods on weekends - if you're currently not syncing orders on the weekend, we recommend to enable this option. This ensures that customers are given the entire weekend to update their orders up until the next Start Time occurs on Monday. Example:
Timeframe is: 11am - 12pm EST with weekend setting enabled
CustomerA places an order at 1pm on Friday = 70 hours left to edit
Advanced Options
To have greater control over the order edit deadline and how it appears for your team, we have two options today:
Add an order tag if the order is editable - this option will add a new tag to the order if the order edit deadline is active. Once the deadline is expired, the tag will be automatically removed.
Disable order editing once payment is captured - if you are currently authorizing payment only to prevent order fulfillment to your ERP / 3PL systems, we recommend to enable this option. Once the payment has been fully captured by Shopify, the deadline will be set to expired and the customer can no longer edit their order.
